Inter Milan won their third Serie A title in six seasons on Sunday with three matchdays to spare, thanks to a comfortable 2-0 win against Parma, sparking celebrations at San Siro. Marcus Thuram and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were on the scoresheet to help seal the deal for the Nerazzurri.
The Nerazzurri now have 21 Scudetti under their belt, and they have head coach Cristian Chivu mainly to thank for that. Chivu, who replaced Simone Inzaghi last year, was under immense pressure to take Inter Milan back to the top, and the Romanian tactician delivered, having found the right formula with his personnel.
Inter Milan’s Serie A 2026 results have been so good this season that they have a 12-point cushion over second-seeded (and former champions) Napoli in the Italian top-flight standings. Besides winning the Scudetto, the Nerazzurri can also win the Coppa Italia, per the SBOTOP Serie A 2026 odds, to complete a domestic double.
Chivu finally proves his worth
When Cristian Chivu was appointed manager of Inter Milan, many Nerazzurri fans were skeptical. Despite his previous experience in handling Inter Milan’s youth teams, many believed that Chivu was biting more than he could chew, as he was going from securing Parma’s top-flight survival to leading one of the league’s perennial contenders.

After a 1-1 draw against Monterrey to open his Inter Milan stint, Chivu led the team to the Club World Cup Round of 16, where they eventually lost 2-0 to Fluminense. The Nerazzurri also bombed out of the Supercoppa Italiana, losing to Bologna in the semi-finals via penalties, and the Champions League, where Bodo/Glimt shockingly beat them during the play-off round.
But perhaps having fewer matches became a blessing in disguise for Inter Milan, as they had fresher legs throughout the rest of the 2025-26 campaign. This gave them enough juice to win the Serie A championship and come close to winning the Coppa Italia.
To do this without doing much in the summer and winter transfer windows says a lot about Chivu’s pedigree, but it helps that he inherited an already loaded squad from his predecessor. Chivu should get the backing from the front office this summer after he has shown what he is capable of.
The standout stars for Inter Milan
Inter Milan were the best team in Italy, boasting the best offence in Serie A, netting 82 goals, well ahead of their closest rivals. For context, the Nerazzurri have more than 23 league goals over Como, who have the second-highest goal tally thus far.
Leading scorers Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram are the Capocannoniere frontrunners this year with 16 and 13 goals, respectively. Meanwhile, 28-year-old wing-back Federico Dimarco set the new record for most assists in a single season with 18, and he can tack on more dimes in the next three matchdays.
Beyond their attacking strength, Inter Milan found crucial balance in midfield. Hakan Calhanoglu, Nicolo Barella, and Piotr Zielinski, among others, played pivotal roles, contributing both defensively and creatively to become the fulcrum of the team. Calhanoglu is the team’s third-leading scorer with nine goals and four assists. Barella has three goals and eight assists. Zielinski produced six goals and three assists.
Inter Milan’s backline was equally important, as they conceded only 31 goals thus far – the fourth-best mark in the Italian top-flight. The Nerazzurri can attribute their success in this regard to Alessandro Bastoni, Manuel Akanji, Yann Bisseck, and their evergreen goalkeeper, Yann Sommer.
What lies ahead for the Nerazzurri?
After securing the Scudetto when they beat Parma (Cristian Chivu’s former team), Inter Milan will face Lazio for their next Serie A match, which serves as their warm-up contest ahead of their Coppa Italia final next week. The Nerazzurri are certainly keen on completing the domestic double, and they’ll wrap up their 2025-26 campaign with two more league matches against Hellas Verona and Bologna.
Inter Milan face the big task of keeping their core together this summer transfer window, as several rival clubs are circling their big stars, including Alessandro Bastoni, who has Barcelona as his top suitor. Wing-back Denzel Dumfries is also linked with a potential move to the Premier League.
Francesco Acerbi, Matteo Darmian, and Stefan de Vrij are reportedly on their way out of San Siro in June, and Inter Milan have earmarked Gianluca Mancini, Oumar Solet, and Tarik Muharemovic as potential replacements.
Furthermore, Inter Milan are expected to sign a new goalkeeper for next season, with Yann Sommer’s contract expiring in less than two months. Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario is the Nerazzurri’s top target in that regard.
