Getafe vs Barcelona
Hansi Flick’s Barcelona have moved nine points clear at the top of the Primera Division table, with just six games left to play. And on Saturday, they are set to enter the Coliseum in Madrid, the home of Getafe.
While the Blaugrana appear to be marching relentlessly on to a successful defence of their 2025 title, Getafe have sneaked up to sixth place in the La Liga rankings, level with Celta Vigo on points, and Los Azulones, managed by Jose Bordalas, now find themselves in a fierce fight for a European place.
So, this will be another good test of Barca’s resolve in the run-in.
After Real Madrid got a much-needed 2-1 win over Deportivo Alaves on Tuesday night, the gap at the top of the table was reduced to six points, but Barca responded with a hard-earned 1-0 win over Celta Vigo, which allowed Getafe to move into the European places after they won away to rivals Real Sociedad.
Talking Points
Clear focus for Barca
Out of the Champions League after a dramatic exit at the hands of Atletico Madrid and consigned to watch their Basque friends Real Sociedad win the Copa del Rey, Barcelona have one simple priority: to win the Primera Division as soon as possible. The Blaugrana did win the Spanish Super Cup, beating Real Madrid to retain that title, so they have a double of sorts to complete. And crucially, Flick’s men currently have the upper hand on their El Clasico rivals, who have also bombed out of the Champions League.
Wednesday’s clash at home to Celta Vigo produced a narrow win in scoreline and was a tight encounter as both sides registered three shots on target each. It is that type of victory which can characterise a champion team, just as much as the 4-1 thrashing of city rival Espanyol, or the statement win away to Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid. Celta is a tough side to play, and Barca managed to tick another game off the list. Now they need to pick up just 10 points from their last six games to win the title, and it would take a big collapse now for Barca to be stopped.

Lamine Yamal gave the Blaugrana a first-half lead against Celta from the penalty spot, and Ferran Torres thought he’d doubled the lead shortly after the break until VAR cancelled out his effort. But keeper Joan Garcia did his work when asked to preserve the lead. Yamal now has 16 league goals while Torres stays on 14, third and fifth in the list of La Liga leading scorers, and with Pedri back to his best, captain on Wednesday, this is a team ready to finish the job.
Getafe can sniff a European place
After landing in 13th place last term, the pre-season La Liga 2026 betting odds predicted another mid-table finish for Los Azulones, and so it seemed until a recent uptick in La Liga 2026 results, which has yielded 12 points from their last six league outings. A 1-0 win away to Copa del Rey winners Real Sociedad allowed Getafe to leapfrog La Real into seventh place, and when Barca did them the favour of beating Vigo, Bordalas’ men happily nudged up to sixth.
And they have picked up some impressive results in recent weeks, beating fifth-placed Real Betis 2-0 at the Coliseum, where they also saw off Athletic Bilbao by the same scoreline, as Argentine striker Luis Vazquez, on loan from Anderlecht, opened the scoring. At 6’3”, the 24-year-old is a real handful, and he will try to unsettle the Barca defence. And Getafe stalwart David Soria is also likely to be a busy man as the last line of defence.
Getafe’s 16,500-seater stadium will be packed to the rafters on Saturday, and the home fans will try to make it as uncomfortable for the Catalans as possible.
History
The Blaugrana have won 31 to four of their meetings with Getafe, and the Madrid side has not won at the Camp Nou over their last 23 visits. Which means at home they have won four, drawn six, and lost 12 from 22 games.
When the two teams met in a rain-swept Catalonia in September, Barca ran out 3-0 winners as Torres scored twice with Dani Olmo also on the score sheet.
Barcelona are seemingly marching towards the league title with six league wins from their last six outings, and Getafe, too, are in good shape with four league wins from their last six.
Betting tip
Getafe are at SBOTOP odds of 6.55 to win with the draw at 4.33, while Barcelona are short odds at 1.47 and the Double: Getafe or Draw is priced at 2.70. This is certainly a good test for the Blaugrana, but I see no reason why they won’t pass it.
