K-League: New-Look Sangju Set for Suwon Showdown

Sangju Sangmu FC vs Suwon Samsung Bluewings

Sangju Sangmu’s mini-slump is over. After losing back-to-back games for the first time this K-League season, the military men got back on track with a convincing 3-1 win over a resurgent Incheon United that had won two on the bounce.

Sangju will now be aiming to start a new winning streak when they welcome Suwon Bluewings to the Sangju Civic Stadium to kick off the weekend’s games.

Suwon snapped their own winless slide last time out with a 3-1 win over Busan I’Park. But the K-League 2020 betting odds will not be in their favour as they look to win consecutive matches for the first time this year.

Talking Points

New-look Sangju Sangmu back on track

Sangju Sangmu played their first game without six players who ended their military service against Incheon United. Among those six players they lost was Kang Sang-woo, which is a major blow to the side. The 26-year-old was having a terrific season with Sangju as he led the team with seven goals and five assists.

But despite Kang’s absence, Sangju still produced an impressive attacking performance in their 3-1 victory over bottom-club Incheon United. Oh Se-hun and Kim Jin-Hyuk had Sangju up 2-0 before the half-hour mark, and Jeong Jae-Hee sealed the win with a second-half goal.

It was the first time all season that Sangju had scored three goals in a single game. While they aren’t the most prolific attack in the league, Sangju still find the net on a consistent basis. Since losing 4-0 in their season opener against Ulsan Hyundai, they have scored in every match this season.

However, Sangju are still more known for their defensive solidity and organisation. Don’t be fooled by their defensive record of 23 goals conceded; nine of those goals came in two games against leaders Ulsan, so they’ve given up just 14 goals in the other 16 games.

Sangju should like their chances of slowing down a Suwon side which has struggled mightily in terms of scoring goals, particularly away from home, this season.

Bluewings attack finally takes flight

Suwon Bluewings finally ended a poor run of K-League 2020 results (four games without a win) as they won at home against Busan I’Park.

After going down after just three minutes, Suwon turned things around in the second half. Kim Min-Woo scored a brace to lead Suwon to their first home win since beating bottom-club Incheon back in May.

Suwon absolutely battered Busan as they controlled 61 per cent of possession and had 19 total shots (seven on target). It was easily one of the Bluewings’ best attacking performances in a season where they’ve found goals hard to come by.

Prior to their win over Busan, Suwon had scored just twice in their last six games. And with Adam Taggart struggling to find the form which saw him lead the K-League with 20 goals last season, Suwon have scored just 17 goals this season (fourth-fewest in the league).

Suwon’s attack has been especially bad away from home, where they’ve scored only five times in eight games.

On the other hand, though, they have been able to make things difficult for their opponents as their defence has conceded only six away goals. That’s the fewest in the league, although they’ve also played one game fewer.

History

Suwon Bluewings have had the better of Sangju Sangmu over the past decade. Suwon have 13 wins in their last 26 meetings against Sangju, who have won just five of those 26 matches, with eight draws.

Suwon went eight years without losing to the military side in the league as they won 11 of 18 matches.

However, Sangju finally snapped that streak this season as they beat Suwon 1-0 away. Sang-Woo Kang scored a dramatic winner in the 89th minute to hand the military men that much-awaited win.

Betting Tip

??
Sangju Sangmu FC vs Suwon Samsung Bluewings Under 2.25 @ 1.85
September 04, 18:00 (GMT+8)

Somewhat surprisingly, SBOTOP odds have Sangju Sangmu priced as only slight favourites at 2.50 to win, with Suwon Bluewings at 2.81. A draw is 3.10.

Sangju are decent value with those odds to win at home, but the over under has more appeal personally. This matchup has not produced too many goals of late; of their last four meetings, none have had more than two goals.

With Suwon’s track record of producing low-scoring affairs away from home and Sangju’s own capable defence, don’t expect many goals in this contest.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)
