With the 2026/27 Bundesliga campaign fewer than four weeks away, the excitement is beginning to mount across Germany as fans look forward to another action packed domestic campaign.
And they will need cheering up!
The Germany national team flopped on the world stage yet again, crashing out of World Cup 2026 at the Round of 32 stage, losing on penalties to Paraguay, and that on the back of group stage exits in 2018 and 2022. So Bundesliga 2026 news is back on the agenda as players and supporters alike try to put the disaster in the USA behind them.
2026 champions Bayern Munich are the favourites to win the 2027 title, according to the early SBOTOP Bundesliga 2026 betting odds, and they will kick off their new campaign with a Friday night match against VfB Stuttgart on 28th August. And manager Vincent Kompany has been trying to strengthen his hand, bringing in Nathaniel Brown, a left back from Eintracht Frankfurt and attacking midfielder Ismail Saibari from PSV Eindhoven, both for around 50m Euros.
But it looks like the Bavarians will miss out on Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola again, as they look for a replacement for Michael Olise, who looks like he will stay at the club for just one more year. Bayern have been tracking the 23 year-old Les Bleus star, who moved to Paris from Red Bull Leipzig for 45m Euros back in 2023. After starring at the World Cup, he’d likely cost significantly more than that figure, but every year his contract runs down Barcola becomes a little more affordable. That would possibly suit Bayern with Olise likely to leave in 2027, but the situation has become more urgent following the news that big spending Liverpool are considering a move for PSG’s man.
The Bavarians have been in contact with Barcola’s management team for two years now, but it looks like the effort may come to nothing if the Premier League giants make their anticipated move.
Dortmund prepare to launch their attack
2026 runners up Borussia Dortmund will lead the chase to try to wrestle the Bundesliga title away from Bayern and, captained by midfield ace Emre Can they have a squad packed with potential as well as proven class. Norway wingback Julian Ryerson impressed at the World Cup while Jude Bellingham’s kid brother Jobe is hoping to make his mark this season. The 20 year-old England U21 star has made 33 appearances already for Die Schwarzgelben and he is determined to follow in his brother’s footsteps. At the back, centre half Nico Schlotterbeck will marshal the defence and he will have a new partner following the departure of Niklas Sule to SV Tifenbach. 19 year-old French star Joane Gadou has signed a five year contract following his switch from red Bull Salzburg where he played 40 times and, at 6ft 5in he is already a commanding presence at the back.
And Borussia Dortmund Managing Director Lars Ricken says the club will continue to invest, with Genk midfielder Konstantinos Karetsas on the radar. Ricken is keeping his cards close to his chest and won’t publicly talk about other clubs’ players, but reports in Germany suggest that BVB may be close to signing Fc Koln winger El Mala, who is valued at around 50m Euros, a price which Dortmund will hope to negotiate on.
Elsewhere, Bayer Leverkusen, now managed by Carles Martinez Novell, are hoping to challenge again, spearheaded by Czech striker Patrik Schick and with USA World Cup star Malik Tillman in their ranks. After finishing sixth last season the 2024 champions need a reset and Novell will hope to bring more bodies in before the close of the summer break, with Lyon winger Alfonso Moreira already in through the door at a cost of 29m Euros.
Red Bull Leipzig are likely to make up the top four, but they have a real battle on their hands to keep hold of Ivory Coast star Yan Diomande. The flying winger has been linked with Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid, and he apparently called in sick when full training at the club resumed. He is missing the pre-season friendly against Verl and Diomande, a target for Liverpool until very recently, is now in a state of limbo. He is keen to make a move to Spain and Leipzig have valued their man at 100m Euros. This story has some way to run so we’ll keep a close eye on it.
