SC Freiburg vs Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich suffered a 3-0 loss against Feyenoord yesterday in the Champions League, and they aim to bounce back when they visit SC Freiburg at the Europa-Park Stadion this Saturday. Vincent Kompany’s side remains on top of the Bundesliga standings with 45 points, four points over second-seeded Bayer Leverkusen. Before their midweek humiliation against Feyenoord, Bayern Munich were on a four-game winning streak in the German top-flight.
On the other hand, SC Freiburg are fighting for a spot in European football next season. Julian Schuster’s men are the eight-seed with 27 points (level with seventh-seeded VfL Wolfsburg). SC Freiburg have lost three of their last four matches, including a 4-0 loss against VfB Stuttgart last time out.
The pregame SBOTOP betting odds favour the visitors because of their unbeaten run against the hosts. It’ll be interesting to see if SC Freiburg can put up resistance against Bayern Munich this weekend.
Talking Points
SC Freiburg need more firepower
SC Freiburg have the worst attack among Bundesliga’s European hopefuls, as they’ve only scored 25 goals after the first 18 matchdays. And it doesn’t help that they’ve conceded 18 goals on the other end, including 10 already in 2025.
After securing a 3-2 win over Holstein Kiel to kick off the new year, SC Freiburg capitulated against Eintracht Frankfurt (4-1) and VfB Stuttgart (4-0), which has them seeking attacking reinforcements this winter transfer window. According to reports, the Black Forest are keen on acquiring Jan-Niklas Beste from Benfica. The 26-year-old has Bundesliga experience since he has played for Heidenheim from 2022 to 2024.
It feels like it’s only a matter of time before we’ll see Beste suit up for SC Freiburg, but head coach Julian Schuster must maximise what he has now. Ritsu Doan is the team’s last scorer with six league goals and two assists. Vincenzo Grifo and Lukas Kubler have combined for nine league goals and eight assists. The Black Forest will need more from Michael Gregoritsch, who only has one league goal and one assist.
No time to waste for Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich will certainly want to forget what happened against Feyenoord. Their horrific night started when Kim Min-Jae miscalculated the flight of a long ball, and Santiago Gimenez smashed the ball home in the 21st minute. Bayern Munich lost Alphonso Davies to injury before the end of the first half, and to make matters worse, Raphael Guerreiro (Davies’ replacement) conceded a penalty and Gimenez made it a brace. Ayase Ueda capped off the night for the Dutch giants by scoring another goal during the 89th minute.
Die Bayern were wasteful in the final third against Feyenoord, which cannot happen here in the Bundesliga. Vincent Kompany’s men fired 30 shots with only six on target, but none went into the goal. They also had 80-per cent of the ball (compared to only 20-per cent for Feyenoord).
Harry Kane had a rare off-night against Feyenoord, so expect him to be ultra-aggressive against SC Freiburg. After all, the Englishman is the frontrunner in the Bundesliga Golden Boot race with 16 league goals.
History
SC Freiburg and Bayern Munich have already squared off earlier this season. Last September, Bayern Munich won 2-0 at the Allianz Arena, as Harry Kane and Thomas Muller found the back of the net.
Bayern Munich have not lost any of their 17 previous Bundesliga matches against SC Freiburg (W13, D4) since a 2-1 loss in May 2015. 45 points after the first 18 matchdays is the highest for Die Bayern at this juncture since the 2016-17 campaign under Carlo Ancelotti.
SC Freiburg recently lost two Bundesliga matches in a row for the first time under head coach Julian Schuster. However, they are winners of three straight at home.
Betting Tip
The Bundesliga 2025 odds expect a straightforward result for the visitors this Saturday. Bayern Munich are 1.32 favourites to win, whereas SC Freiburg are 6.70 underdogs, and a draw is at 5.10 in the 1X2 market. Any result besides a victory is considered a downer for Die Bayern, especially with Bayer Leverkusen breathing down on their necks.
Besides our recommended bet above, football bettors and fans should get their usual dose of Bundesliga 2025 highlights, making alternatives like Over 3.00 at 1.65, Over 3.25 at 1.88, Over 3.50 at 2.14, Total Goal 2-3 at 2.29, or even Total Goal 4-6 at 2.30 viable. Furthermore, a Correct Score of 2-0 in favour of Bayern Munich – the result of their previous meeting – has a solid offer of 7.90 your bet.
