After being out of a job for almost six months, Ruben Amorim is back to coaching after taking the AC Milan job, and he is eager for a fresh start in Serie A this upcoming season. Last month, Amorim signed a two-year contract, so he’ll have enough time to rebuild the Rossoneri.
AC Milan failed to secure a Champions League spot this past season, finishing fifth in the Italian top-flight standings at 70 points (one point behind fourth-placed Como). Hopefully, that will change under Amorim this time around.
Amorim replaces Max Allegri, who has taken the vacant Napoli job after Antonio Conte resigned. The Partenopei finished second behind Inter Milan last term, so Allegri will have his work cut out in trying to outdo his predecessor.
Speaking of Inter Milan, their SBOTOP Serie A 2026 odds of winning another league title this upcoming season have taken a hit following the departures of some of their key players.
Amorim receives the backing of AC Milan
AC Milan are determined to back Ruben Amorim, as they’ve been quite busy in the summer transfer window. After letting go of Alex Jimenez, Tommaso Pobega, Lorenzo Colombo, and Alvaro Morata, the Rossoneri went out and got Mario Gila from Lazio and Goncalo Ramos from PSG, strengthening their defensive and attacking depth. According to the Serie A 2026 news, AC Milan shelled out around €100 million for the duo.
Gila was one of Lazio’s top players last season, as the 25-year-old centre-back helped them reach the Coppa Italia final. The Spaniard won the most tackles (68) among Lazio players over the last two Serie A seasons. He also won the second-most duels (289) and had the third-most interceptions (53).
Ramos set the record for the most expensive acquisition in AC Milan’s history. The 25-year-old striker is looking for a fresh start in San Siro, as he never really got his chance at PSG, where he scored 45 goals in 131 appearances.
AC Milan seem far from done this offseason. Amorim plans to convince Luka Modric to delay his retirement for at least one more season, and the team has been linked to Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus, Benfica’s Antonio Silva, and Manchester United’s Noussair Mazraoui. Meanwhile, the team is keen to offload Rafael Leao, only for the right price.
Key exits for Inter Milan

Inter Milan are slowly becoming one of the losers of the summer transfer window, as Cristian Chivu’s side has let go of several key players. Veteran centre-backs Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi have already left, with the former going to Panathinaikos and the latter still a free agent. Matteo Darmian doesn’t have a team either. Yann Sommer recently joined Club Brugge, while Denzel Dumfries was sold to Real Madrid for only €20 million.
In return, they acquired Ivan Provedel and Aleksandar Stankovic for €26 million. The Nerazzurri also signed Manuel Akanji to a permanent deal after a successful loan to pry him away from Manchester City. In terms of transfer rumours, Inter Milan have been linked to Liverpool’s Curtis Jones and Federico Chiesa.
But to make matters worse, Alessandro Bastoni has been placed under investigation by the Italian government for underage prostitution. According to investigators, Bastoni allegedly had sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old girl, who had been recruited by a company organising luxury events and dinners for VIPs in Milan. With that said, there’s a huge chance Bastoni will be suspended if the investigation drags on, which would be a massive blow to their backline.
Allegri takes the wheel in Napoli
Max Allegri didn’t have to wait too long to get another coaching job, as he signed a three-year contract to fill the Napoli vacancy earlier this month. The 58-year-old was out of a job after he was fired by AC Milan last May for failing to secure Champions League football.
During his recent interview, Allegri said he’s not looking for redemption at Napoli, but admitted that he has a tough act to follow upon replacing Antonio Conte, who left Naples after two years in charge, during which the Partenopei finished first and second in Serie A.
Allegri actually replaced Conte before, when he became Juventus head coach in 2014. There, he went on to win five consecutive Serie A titles and guided the Bianconeri to four Coppa Italia titles and two Champions League finals. Now that they have hired Allegri, it’s on the front office to back their new head coach. So far this offseason, all Napoli did were sign Rasmus Hojlund, Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, and Alisson Santos to permanent contracts after their successful loans last term.
