Premier League: Reds Seek Seagulls Sweep to Stay Alive in the Top 4 Race

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Liverpool

Liverpool’s hopes of securing a Champions League berth for next season have hit a snag, as they’re winless in their last two Premier League games. At the time of writing, Arne Slot’s side is fifth in the English top-flight standings with 49 points, only two points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa, but Liverpool are still within arm’s reach.

After a shocking 2-1 loss to Wolves and drawing 1-1 against Tottenham, Liverpool returned to winning ways with a 4-0 rout of Galatasaray in the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie to progress to the next round. And they’ll look to keep it going when they visit Brighton at the AMEX Stadium on Saturday.

Brighton are currently 12th in the table with 40 points. Fabian Hurzeler’s men have won two of their last three, including last week’s 1-0 road win against Sunderland.

Talking Points

Brighton have uncovered another hidden gem

Brighton have done it again, as they’ve unlocked another stud from South America. Diego Gomez has been one of the Seagulls’ top scorers this season with five goals, making him one of the top players to watch out for if you’re Liverpool.

Gomez recently became only the third Paraguayan player, alongside Roque Santa Cruz and Miguel Almiron, to net five or more goals in a single Premier League campaign after he scored against Nottingham Forest two weeks ago in the 2-1 victory. That was a second goal in as many matches for Gomez after also opening the scoring in a 2-0 victory at Brentford.

Can Brighton secure points against Liverpool in their upcoming Premier League clash?

The 22-year-old is one of Brighton’s most versatile players. Gomez can play on the wings, as the No. 10, or even as a central midfielder, with the latter position being his main role for the national team. He is expected to start alongside Danny Welbeck, Yankuba Minteh, and Jack Hinshelwood up front against Liverpool.

Minteh scored his second league goal of the season in Brighton’s narrow victory against Sunderland last time out. But much of the credit went to Jan Paul van Hecke, as the Dutch centre-back was instrumental in securing the clean sheet.

Liverpool sweating on Salah’s fitness

Liverpool avoided a Turkish sweep, as they unloaded on Galatsaray last night. Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring in the first half before Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch, and Mohamed Salah joined the scoring binge in the succeeding half.

Salah missed a first-half penalty but made amends in the 62nd minute to become the highest-scoring African player in Champions League history (50 goals). However, he asked to be subbed out 13 minutes later, with the result secure.

According to head coach Arne Slot, Salah sustained a knock and is fighting against time to be fit for the Brighton game. If he doesn’t make it, Cody Gakpo or Rio Ngumoha could take his place in the starting XI.

History

Brighton and Liverpool have already met twice this season, though Saturday marks the first time they’ll face off at the AMEX Stadium this term. Liverpool won 2-0 in their reverse league fixture last December through Hugo Ekitike’s brace, and they also eliminated Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round last month, as Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Mohamed Salah were on the scoresheet. The Reds plan to complete a league double over the Seagulls for the first time since 2019-20.

The Seagulls have won two of their last three Premier League home matches against the Reds (D1), securing a 3-2 victory in this fixture last season. They’d only won one of their first 13 against the Reds (D6, L6). They’ve now won three of their last four league matches (L1) after a run of just one win in 13 league matches from the start of December (D6, L6).

Betting Tip

The Premier League 2026 odds predict a close fight between Brighton and Liverpool. Because they’re higher in the standings, the Reds have the slight advantage at 2.23, whereas the Seagulls aren’t far behind at 2.84, and a draw is at 3.32 in the 1X2 market.

There will be new Premier League 2026 highlights coming out of this contest, but it is the Reds who’ll be responsible for most of them. Besides rooting for Liverpool to win, SBOTOP bettors may also add Over 2.50 at 1.66, Over 2.75 at 1.83, and Total Goals 2-3 at 2.06 to the parlay.

Furthermore, the Correct Scores of 2-0 and 3-0 in favour of Liverpool – the results of their previous encounters this term, albeit in Anfield – offer handsome payouts of 12.50 and 24.00, respectively.
