Best FIFA Football Awards: Double Delight for Dembele and Bonmati

PSG and Barcelona fans were two of the biggest winners in the recently concluded Best FIFA Football Awards, as their stars have been rewarded for their top performances this year. After winning the Ballon d’Or last September, Ousmane Dembele and Aitana Bonmati received their due again in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday, further validating their success.

Besides Dembele and Bonmati, the Best FIFA Football Awards also acknowledged the best coaches, goalkeepers, goals, fans, and some of the most memorable moments on the pitch. Overall, last night’s ceremony was a celebration of the love of the beautiful game.

The voting for the Best FIFA Football Awards is divided into four sections, with each contributing 25-per cent of the final result. The four sections that vote are national team captains, national team coaches, media, and fans.

Without further ado, here’s an SBOTOP recap of the Best FIFA Football Awards 2025 highlights.

PSG stars get their due

Ousmane Dembele became the second PSG player to have won the Best FIFA Men’s Player after Lionel Messi did so in 2022 and 2023. In the voting, the 28-year-old winger surpassed the likes of Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe to win the award.

Dembele was the favourite in the Best FIFA Football Awards 2025 odds for being the driving force behind PSG’s trophy-laden 2024-25 season, which included winning the elusive Champions League. After a slow start to the campaign, his performance improved massively under Luis Enrique’s bold decision to shift him to centre-forward. As a result, Dembele recorded 35 goals across all competitions, including 21 in Ligue 1 to win the league’s golden boot.

Speaking of Enrique, he was rightfully named the Best FIFA Men’s Coach for being the mastermind behind PSG’s history-making season. Besides winning the Champions League, Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and Trophee des Champions, the Parisiens also reached the final of the FIFA Club World Cup (eventually losing to Chelsea), with their run including statement wins over Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Gianluigi Donnarumma was named the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper for being the defencive rock of PSG in his final year before joining Manchester City last summer.

Achraf Hakimi, Willian Pacho, Nuno Mendes, and Vitinha also received plaudits from FIFA, as they were named in the Best FIFA Men’s XI alongside Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Barcelona’s Pedri and Lamine Yamal, and Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham.

Bonmati and Wiegman continue to reign supreme for the ladies

Aitana Bonmati claimed her third consecutive Best FIFA Women’s Player award, as the Barcelona midfielder delivered consistently solid performances for club and country. In 2024-25, Bonmati won a domestic treble with Barcelona, scoring 12 goals and six assists in La Liga F, but was a runner-up in the Champions League and Women’s Euro 2025. Despite falling short in the Champions League and Women’s Euro 2025, Bonmati was named Player of the Tournament in those competitions.

Bonmati bested Alexia Putellas and Mariona Caldentey for the prestigious award. However, she recently underwent surgery for a fractured fibula in early December. Joining Bonmati in the Best FIFA Women’s XI are Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton – the Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper awardee – Lucy Bronze, Leah Williamson, Irene Paredes, Ona Batlle, Patricia Guijarro, Claudia Pina, Alexia Putellas, Alessia Russo, and Mariona Caldentey.

On the other hand, Sarina Wiegman deservedly won the Best FIFA Women’s Coach award for the record-extending fifth time for being the architect behind England’s successful Women’s Euro title defence. She became the first coach to win three Women’s Euro titles. The Dutchwoman has previously been honoured with the Best FIFA Women’s Coach award in 2017, 2020, 2022, and 2023.

Other notable awardees

Zakho SC supporters won the Fan Award for their efforts in helping children who suffer from illnesses through their toy donation drive. Meanwhile, Dr. Andreas Harlass-Neuking, a sports surgery specialist, is the winner of this year’s FIFA Fair Play award, as the SSV Jahn Regensburg team doctor saved a fan’s life before the big Bundesliga 2 match between their team and Magdeburg.

Santiago Montiel and Lizbeth Ovalle won the FIFA Puskas and Marta awards this year.
